A neighbor.
A conservative.
A proven leader.

Bill Whitmire was born and raised in Oconee County, South Carolina. He taught in Oconee County schools, served his country in the Army Reserve, and built a life farming this land. He knows District 1 because he has lived it every day.

He has served in the SC House of Representatives since 2003 — not as a career politician chasing higher office, but as a community man doing a job he takes seriously. Before Columbia, he served Walhalla on City Council, as Mayor Pro Tempore, and as Mayor.

Bill and his wife Kathy have built their life here. Community, family, and service have always come first.

Where decisions get made.

The South Carolina House Ways and Means Committee is where the state budget is written. Bill Whitmire sits at that table as 2nd Vice Chair — not on the sidelines, not giving speeches about what should happen.

He chairs the Public Education subcommittee. That means he helps decide how South Carolina funds its schools, supports rural districts, and manages spending responsibly. That experience does not come from being new. It comes from being there and doing the work.

Where He Stands

Plain talk on the issues.

Parents & Schools
Parents have the right to direct their children's education. Bill sponsored and voted for the Parental Rights Act. Schools should be accountable to families, not the other way around.
Taxes & Spending
South Carolina taxpayers work hard for what they earn. As a budget subcommittee chair, Bill fights to make sure state money is spent on what matters — not wasted on programs that do not work.
Life & Family
Bill is pro-life. He has voted that way and sponsored legislation that reflects it. He believes South Carolina should protect innocent life and support families.
Personal Liberty
Government overreach is a real threat. Bill believes in property rights, limited government, and the freedom of Oconee and Pickens residents to live their lives without Columbia telling them how.
Women's Sports
Female athletes deserve fair competition. Bill voted for the Save Women's Sports Act and stands by that vote. This is common sense.
Merit Over Ideology
Government and public schools should operate on merit. Bill voted to end DEI mandates in state agencies and institutions. Your tax dollars should not fund political agendas.
